It is well known that cloud computing has existed for quite some time through services such as Saas; however, it is not until the past decade that the term has started to become a buzz word. Running a company's important applications containing vital company data in a cloud can be cost effective, but we must also consider the cloud's security.
The Cloud’s economies of scale and flexibility are both a friend and a foe from a security point of view. The massive concentrations of resources and data present a more attractive target to attackers, but cloud-based defences can be more robust, scalable and cost-effective.
We must weigh the fact that vital company data could be leaked versus the cost effectiveness of having that data in the cloud.
